⚠️ Important note on the HEIC format

PDF24 currently does not support files in HEIC format (.heic).

After careful consideration, we have decided not to integrate this format into our tools at this time. The reasons for this are:

  • Patent risks: HEIC (based on HEVC/H.265) is subject to numerous patents. For free services like PDF24, the licensing situation for the necessary software decoders is currently not sufficiently clarified legally.
  • Platform protection: In order to offer PDF24 permanently and without legal uncertainties, we consistently rely on formats whose use is free from third-party patent claims.
  • Preference for open standards: We actively support open formats such as JPEG, PNG, and PDF, which work across platforms without licensing hurdles.

You can still use your images by choosing one of these simple methods:

1. One-time conversion

Use the built-in tools of your device (e.g., Photos app on iPhone or "Preview" on Mac) to export the image as a JPEG.

2. Camera settings

On your iPhone, change the option under Settings > Camera > Formats to "Most Compatible".

We regularly review new royalty-free standards like AVIF for future support.
